Football is often referred to as king in the Southeast. If there was a capital city of that kingdom, most would look no further than Tuscaloosa, home of the University of Alabama.

With 18 football National Championships, the Crimson Tide has a rich and storied tradition on and off the sidelines. Legendary championship-winning coaches like Paul W. “Bear” Bryant, Gene Stallings and Nick Saban as well as Heisman Trophy winners like Bryce Young, Derrick Henry, Devonta Smith and Mark Ingram headline as the faces of the program and its history.

To commemorate these outstanding achievements on the football field, the Paul W. Bryant Museum was built to house trophies, famous memorabilia and exhibits showcasing Alabama’s storied traditions.

But while football is certainly king at Alabama, it’s far from the only sport worth memorializing.

“Now, there’s a misconception about the Bryant Museum that it’s just about coach Bryant or that it’s just about football,” said Paul W. Bryant Museum Director Olivia Arnold. “Our mission is actually to tell the history of sports here at the University of Alabama, not just football.”

In fulfilling that mission, the Bryant Museum has an exhibit commemorating Alabama’s softball program and a new exhibit dedicated to Alabama men’s basketball.
