Haunting at the Museum

The Alabama Museum of Natural History will be co-hosting Haunting at the Museum with the Gorgas House Museum on October 24-28, 2022.

Alabama Museum of Natural History

The Alabama Museum of Natural History will have lighting by 2L7’s Lyndell McDonall and provide spooky scavenger hunts during the week of October 24-28. Museum visitors are also encouraged to attend our after-hours event on October 26 from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm. to celebrate Halloween with spooky children’s stories, crafts, mad scientist experiments, and more!

Admission

General admission is $5.00 for adults, $3 for K-12 students, and free for children 5-years-old and under. Families with kids in costume are free during the week. The after-hours event is free for all.

The museum is located in Smith Hall on the University of Alabama campus. The street address is 427 Sixth Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487.

Directions

From Birmingham: Take Interstate 20/59 S to Tuscaloosa exit 73, McFarland Blvd. Head West on McFarland Blvd toward the University of Alabama. Exit right onto University Blvd. Follow University Blvd to Hackberry Lane. Make a right onto Hackberry Lane and turn into the second parking lot on your left behind Smith Hall (yellow brick building).

From Montgomery: Take Hwy 82 W to Tuscaloosa. Exit right onto University Blvd. Follow University Blvd to Hackberry Lane. Make a right onto Hackberry Lane and turn into the second parking lot on your left behind Smith Hall (yellow brick building).

Parking

There are five dedicated visitor parking spaces in the lot behind Smith Hall that can be accessed from Hackberry Drive. Upon arrival, once you pay for admission, you will receive a parking pass receipt that will entitle you to free parking in our museum visitor parking spaces. In addition, there is a parking deck located at Campus Drive and Hackberry Lane. The cost for visitor parking in the deck is $1 for the first hour and $2 for each additional hour.  To reach the parking deck, take Hackberry Lane to Campus Drive East, and the parking deck is on the right.

Public Transportation

The Tuscaloosa Trolley runs from the city’s downtown parking deck to campus.

This year’s Haunting at the Museum will run from October 24-28, 2022, during regular operating hours (9:00 am-12:00 pm, 1:00 pm-4:30 pm). The Gorgas House Museum will provide FREE haunted tours sharing the spooky stories associated with the home!

The Gorgas House Museum is located at 810 Capstone Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487.

Hours of Operation

Haunted tours at The Gorgas House Museum will be during regular work hours (9:00 am-12:00 pm, 1:00 pm-4:30 pm) on October 24-28, 2022.

Admission

Admission is free and Halloween costumes are encouraged!

Directions

The Gorgas House Museum is located just off the Quadrangle of The University of Alabama campus, at 810 Capstone Drive (one black west of the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, at the corner of McCorvey and Capstone Drives).

Parking

Parking ($5) is available in the North ten Hoor and Ferguson Center parking decks. For large tour buses and special event parking, please make arrangements in advance of your visit by calling 348-5906 or emailing gorgashouse.as.ua.edu.
